About us…

Jonic Properties is a diversified property development and investment company founded by Derek Nicholson and Mark Johnson in 2010 — during the depths of the GFC. Both founders spent decades at Lend Lease during its most entrepreneurial and commercially successful era of the 1990s and early 2000s, bringing with them the commercial discipline and project delivery expertise that underpins everything Jonic does. That foundation, combined with a deliberate strategy of remaining agile across market cycles, is what sets Jonic apart.

Our portfolio spans mixed-use tourism developments in premium holiday destinations, townhouse projects in resource sector towns, large-scale Build to Rent, and affordable boutique inner-city apartments. This breadth reflects our ability to identify and capitalise on opportunity wherever it exists.

We also work closely with local councils and communities to understand the needs of the areas we develop in — ensuring our projects don’t just meet approval requirements, but actively address and improve the issues that matter to the people who live and work there.

Where we’re headed…

In recent years, Jonic Properties has turned its focus toward one of the most pressing challenges in the Australian property market: the chronic shortage of affordable, quality rental accommodation. We have developed and refined a build-to-rent development model that is not only socially meaningful, but commercially bankable — addressing a gap that many in the industry have identified but few have successfully bridged.

With significant demand across South East Queensland and Central NSW, Jonic Properties is well positioned to scale this model and deliver rental communities that work for residents, investors and the broader housing market alike.
